Avelo Airlines announced a whopping 18 new routes and three new destinations as part of what the startup carrier billed as the “largest expansion in company history.”

Included are the airline’s first-ever international destinations: Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Cancun.

Avelo also doubled down on Connecticut, where the carrier said it would expand to Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) with seven new routes this fall. The Hartford service will be in addition to the 26 routes Avelo already flies from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN) — the carrier’s biggest East Coast base, about 60 miles to the south.

Value check: Are airline credit cards worth it anymore?

Avelo said its “dual operations” at HVN and BDL would help it run a "regional base” across the state. Combined, Avelo will now offer 33 total routes to 28 destinations from the two Connecticut airports.

Other big winners in Avelo’s expansion were Florida’s Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) and Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) north of Charlotte.

Lakeland scored seven new routes — including service to Atlanta; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Wilmington, Delaware. Avelo is currently the only airline flying from the airport, located about 60 miles west of Orlando International Airport (MCO) and about 40 miles east of Tampa International Airport (TPA). Avelo serves all three of those airports, giving it blanket coverage along that 100-mile corridor.

New airport alert: Budget carrier Avelo gives tiny Lakeland, Florida, its first commercial airline service in 12 years

In North Carolina, Avelo will add five new routes to the airport in Concord, which is about 18 miles north of uptown Charlotte. Avelo is just one of two airlines at that airport — Allegiant Air is the other — and its new service will significantly increase its presence there. All other airlines serving Charlotte use the much busier Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

A full list of Avelo’s 18 new routes is below.
