Save hundreds using hotel discounts available now with Amex Offers

If you have a hotel stay coming up over the next few months and hold an American Express card, listen up: you may be able to save some serious cash on your next trip.

Many American Express cardholders have reported they’ve been targeted for deep discounts at major hotel chains through the Amex Offers program. If you aren’t yet sure how Amex Offers work or are new to having an Amex, start here to learn the basics of when and how to use those offers.

These offers come at a good time as surging travel demand is pushing accommodation costs high. According to current rates on Hotels.com, travelers can expect to pay on average around $240 per night in the U.S., which is higher than rates from summer 2019.

Remember, Amex Offers depend on the date you charge the purchase to your card and not necessarily the date of travel. With hotel stays, you often don’t pay until the trip itself, though you may be able to book a prepaid rate to ensure the transaction date falls within the promotional period.

Also, keep in mind that these offers can be stacked with any promotions being offered by a hotel’s loyalty program. That means using one of these offers to save money could pair nicely with an opportunity to earn bonus points, depending on your travel plans.

Let’s take a look at the current offers across various Amex cards. Eligibility for these offers is limited. Enrollment is required in the Amex Offers section of your account before redeeming.

Accor

For those staying at Fairmont and Sofitel properties in the U.S. and Mexico, you can get $100 back after spending at least $500 in one or more transactions. This offer is valid through Aug. 31, 2022 and excludes other Accor brands.

Best Western

If you stay at a Best Western or affiliated property on the U.S. mainland, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you can get $20 back after spending $100 or more on your enrolled card. This amount can be spent in one or more transactions and is limited to payments made in U.S. dollars. The offer expires June 30, 2022.

Four Seasons

This offer is valid at one of the participating properties in the Four Seasons hotels and also the Private Retreats Collection of luxury home rentals in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Anguilla and Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as hotels (but not rentals) in the Bahamas. If you spend at least $750 in one or more transactions, you can get $150 back. The offer expires July 17, 2022.

Hilton

Hilton has several different offers that vary by which brand of hotel you're staying at.

Through June 30, 2022, guests at Hilton, Curio — A Collection by Hilton and Canopy by Hilton peroperties can get $50 back after spending at least $250 on room rate and room charges in ine or more transactions.

Guests at Waldorf Astoria, Conrad Hotels and Resorts and LXR Hotels and Resorts can get $100 back after spending at least $500 in one ore more transactions. This offer is valid through July 31, 2022 and applies only to room rate and room charges for stays in the U.S. and U.S. territories.

Now through Sep. 30, 2022, use your enrolled card to spend at least $225 in one or more transactions and you can get $45 back. This offer is valid at DoubleTree by Hilton properties in the U.S. and its territories. Note that the offer does not apply to advance purchase rates or gift cards.

For those staying at Hilton properties in the U.S. and its territories, you can get 3% back or 7% back, depending on which offer you have available. There is a limit to how much you can get back, which is $100. This offer ends on Dec. 14, 2022 and only applies to room rate and room charges. It doesn't apply to advance purchase rates or gift cards.

The 7% offer is obviously the better of the two, if you have it on any of your cards.

Hotel Casa del Mar

Guests visiting Santa Monica, California and staying at the Hotel Casa del Mar can get $100 back after spending at least $500 now through Aug. 31, 2022.

Hotel ZaZa

Guests at Hotel ZaZa luxury properties in Texas can get $200 back after spending at least $800 in one or more transactions through Aug. 31, 2022. This offer applies only to room rate and room charges purchases that are made in U.S. dollars.

Hyatt

Guests at Hyatt Regency properties in the U.S. can get $60 back after spending at least $300 in one or more transactions. This offer is valid through July 18, 2022 and aplies only to the room rate and room charges.

Leading Hotels of the World

Get $100 back after spending at least $500 in one or more transactions with Leading Hotels of the World through July 15, 2022. This offer applies to properties n the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom and in the following select European countries: Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Spain and Italy. This offer applies to room rate and room charges only.

Line Hotels

Guests at The Line Hotels can get $60 back after spending at least $300 in one or more transactions through July 31, 2022. The offer is only valid on purchases made in U.S. dollars.

Lotte

Guests at the Lotte Hotel Seattle — Downtown Luxury property can get $100 back after spending at least $500 in one or more transactions. The offer applies only to room rate and room charges and applies only to this particular property. The offer expires Nov. 10, 2022.

Eligible cardmembers can get $150 back after spending at least $750 in one or more transactions at the Lotte New York Palace through Sep. 5, 2022. This offer is limited to room rate and room charges and only applies to this particular property.

Mandarin Oriental

Now through Sep. 15, 2022, guests at Mandarin Oriental properties in the U.S., London, Paris, Munich, Geneva and Madrid can get $100 back after spending at least $500 in a single purchase. This offer applies only to room rate and room charge spending and must be done in a single purchase.

Marriott

If you have travel plans that include a Marriott luxury brand in the U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean, you can get $100 back after spending $500 or more. Brands included are The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Editino, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels and JW Marriott.

Now through June 30, 2022, Marriott guests can get $50 back after spending at least $250 in one or more transactions. This offer is limited to room rate and room charges and applies only in the following locations: U.S. and U.S. territories, the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico. Additionally, this offer does not aply to gift cards or to the following brands: Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Edition, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, JW Marriott, Marriott Vacation Club, Design Hotels, Protea Hotels by Marriott®, Marriott Executive Apartments, Homes & Villas by Marriott International, and Vistana.

Saguaro

If your travel plans include a stay at Saguro Hotels, you can get $50 back after spending at least $250 in one or more transactions. This offer is valid through July 31, 2022 and is limited to room rate and room charges, and it only applies to purchases made in U.S. dollars.

Small Luxury Hotels

Through Sep. 30, 2022, guests at Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties can get $60 back after spending at least $300 in one or more purchases. The offer is limited to room rate and room charges and only applies to properties in the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Europe.

Sonesta

You can get $50 back after spending at least $250 in one or more transactions at Sonesta properties through Aug. 31, 2022. This offer applies only to Sonesta properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, and your purchase must be made in U.S. dollars to qualify. The offer applies only to room rate and room charges.

Staypineapple Hotels

Guests at Staypineapple's boutique hotels in the U.S. can get $50 back after spending at least $250 in one or more transactions. This offer is valid through Sep. 5, 2022 and only applies to spending on room rates and room charges.

Stein Eriksen

Guests at the Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley can get $150 back after spending at least $500 in one or more purchases on room rates and room charges. This offer is valid through Sep. 30, 2022 and excludes The Chateaux and The Residences at the Chateaux.

Viceroy

Guests at Viceroy Hotels and Resorts in the U.S. and Mexico can get $60 back if they spend at least $300 in one or more transactions. The offer is limited to room rate and room charges, and it ends on Aug. 16, 2022.

Wynn Hotels

Guests at the Wynn and Encore properties in Las Vegas can get $50 back after spending at least $250 in one or more transactions through Sep. 30, 2022. The offer applies to room rate and room charges, as well as select food and beverage establishments and spas.

IHG

Unfortunately, there aren't any offers for IHG properties right now.

Bottom line

Any of the above offers can only be added to one card per account holder. You’ll want to check all of your cards first to select the one that offers you the best return on the purchase — or choose one that waives foreign transaction fees for any purchases outside the U.S. and its territories, if applicable.

Also, these are targeted offers, so you may not see them at all on your Amex cards. If you do, I encourage you to add them right away, since they tend to have limited enrollment and may disappear before the expiration date. Also, only 100 Amex Offers will be visible at a time, so if you’re at capacity, add offers to your card to see if any new ones appear.
