American Express recognizes that its Centurion Lounges are crowded and now it has plans to remedy the situation. Having already completed an expansion in Seattle (SEA), Amex announced Monday that it plans to offer loungegoers more space and additional amenities at its DFW location, which will force a change in lounge location.

Currently, the DFW Centurion Lounge is located in Terminal D opposite gate D17 on the mezzanine level of the terminal. In order to accommodate more travelers and amenities, Amex plans to move the lounge so it'll instead be located next to gate D17. Amex expects the new lounge to open in the first half of 2018.

We don't yet know much in the way of specifics for the new lounge. However, we do know that it will feature an additional 3,000 square feet of space, three shower suites, private telephone rooms and a private mother's room. As is currently available, travelers will continue to have full access to a premium bar, a wide range of food options, complimentary spa therapies, conference space, family room, computer bar, flat-screen TVs and a semi-private working area with high-speed Wi-Fi.

When TPG summer editorial intern Lan Paje visited the DFW Centurion Lounge, he noticed right off the bat one of the most common complaints about the lounge — its issue with overcrowding. Back in March Amex announced a change in its guest policy, limiting the maximum number of guests per cardholder to two in an attempt to combat the overcrowding issues. However, it seems that this policy hasn't slowed down the influx of travelers at DFW and instead, Amex will expand the lounge space.

As a reminder, all cardholders of the Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and the Centurion Card are allowed access to the Amex network of Centurion Lounges. If you hold another American Express card (including those issued by other banks), you can purchase a one-day pass to Centurion Lounges for $50. We're pleased that Amex is acknowledging the overcrowding issue and tackling it head on.
