Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
Several airlines are offering discounted round-trip tickets to Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN) for travel from late summer through fall 2018. The cheapest price we're seeing is just $358 round-trip between New York (JFK) and MAD on SkyTeam partner Air Europa. Note, though that the cheapest tickets in this sale will be booked into basic economy, which means you'll have to pay extra for checked bags, food and other amenities. Regular economy tickets are available as well for a little bit more money — though this could be worth it if you plan on checking a bag on your trip. Search for your itinerary on Google Flights and then complete booking directly with the airlines themselves.
