Deal alert: Icelandair fare sale to Europe as low as $332 from major US cities

There is a great sale on Icelandair fares to Europe right now. You can choose to book a nonstop flight to Reykjavik from U.S. cities such as Boston or Washington, D.C. Or you can visit other European destinations like Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen. We found the best availability for these discounted fares – some under $400 — through spring.

The team at Thrifty Traveler first caught wind of this great deal, which they mailed out to their premium subscribers. That service is available for $7.99 monthly or $49.99 annually. This membership fee easily pays for itself since you’ll get notified of cheap flights, award flight sales and business-class deals straight to your email.

Nonmembers can find sale prices by using Google Flights to search for desired routes and dates.

These are Economy Light fares, which on Icelandair means a free carry-on but no seat assignment. You can upgrade to standard economy fares starting at $90, which gets you a checked bag and seat assignment. Keep in mind that Icelandair isn't part of an alliance, but it has partner airlines such as Alaska Airlines and JetBlue and some of the flights are on those carriers.

Washington D.C. (IAD) to Reykjavik (KEF) in March is available for $332 nonstop.

How does Boston (BOS) to Amsterdam (AMS) for under $400 sound? A trip in March was the lowest fare we found for this route.

Chicago (ORD) to Amsterdam in February is available for just $401, which is a fantastic price. But make sure you can travel light. Your first checked bag will cost you $190 with this fare.

Another good price for an Amsterdam vacation is out of Newark (EWR) where you can book your ticket for just $383 round-trip.

You can also save big on flights from New York City (JFK) to Oslo (OSL). This route in March was just $382.

Maximize your purchase

How to pay: Don’t forget to use a card that earns points on airfare purchases, like The Platinum Card® from American Express for 5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year); the Citi Prestige® Card for 5 points per dollar on airfare; the Citi Premier® Card (see rates and fees) (3 points per dollar on air travel); Chase Sapphire Reserve (3 points per dollar on air travel); the American Express® Gold Card for 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card for 2 points per dollar on travel.

Bottom Line

Typically the best prices we found for many of the routes for these fares were in March. This means if you're still considering a spring getaway, Europe should be at the top of your list.
