Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz's courtesy cancellation if you're unable to travel. Additionally, keep in mind that discounted partner fares may not earn miles with US-based carriers.
Tokyo is normally one of the most expensive cities in Asia to fly to, but if you book right now, you can score a heck of a deal. United and ANA are offering a combination of nonstop and one-stop service (via SFO) to Tokyo starting at just $396 round-trip. This is one of the lowest prices we've ever seen, especially on a great airline like ANA. Tickets are issued on United ticket stock, but are not searchable using Google Flights. To find the lowest price, use Priceline. Momondo is a good tool as well, which gives you the ability to search multiple OTAs. You may also be able to save a few more dollars by booking on StudentUniverse. We found availability on weekdays from September through December.
