Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
Oh, Italy! If your summer plans are already set, here's a fall vacation redemption opportunity. Budget carrier Air Italy, the airline formerly known as Meridiana, wants to invite you to its home country for less than $400 round-trip.
Air Italy, which launches its first routes from New York in June, offers three tiers in economy class: Light, Classic, and Premium. These sale fares begin at $390 round-trip for Light Economy, which does not include checked baggage in the cost of the ticket. However, you will be eligible for web check-in and can also collect Avios even on basic economy, which is a great perk many other low-cost carriers do not offer (many do not even have the airline partnerships). Classic Economy includes one checked bag up to 50 pounds for an additional $42 each way, while Premium Economy offers two checked bags of up to 50 pounds each, advance seat selection and free rebooking for $122 more each way. Availability primarily falls between September and October, with a good number of open dates within a six-week range.
No tricks needed to find these airfares — just find the dates you want by searching with Google Flights, then book on Orbitz, Expedia or directly with the airline itself.
