For today (Friday, January 20) only, you can earn 15x Alaska miles when you make a purchase with select retailers via the Mileage Plan Shopping portal. Since TPG values these miles at 1.9 cents apiece, you're looking at a return of 28.5% when you make an eligible purchase.

Here are the merchants offering the elevated 15x earning rate today:

  • 1-800-Flowers
  • JCPenney
  • Lord & Taylor
  • Neiman Marcus
  • Nike
  • Old Navy
  • Rosetta Stone
  • Saks.com
  • Saks OFF Fifth
  • Sephora
  • Spring
  • Under Armour

If you were already planning on making a purchase through one of these retailers' websites and could use some extra Alaska miles, today's a great opportunity to maximize your spending. Prior to this one-day elevated bonus, JCPenney's earning rate through Mileage Plan Shopping was 3 miles per dollar; 1-800-Flowers' was 7 miles per dollar; and Nike's was 5 miles per dollar.

Unless you're making a large purchase, you likely won't earn enough miles for a flight. However, if you just need a few extra miles to lock in an award you've been eying, this promo could fit the bill. For instance, if you spent $250 at Neiman Marcus, you'd earn 3,750 miles — not enough for an award, but it's halfway toward an intra-Alaska flight and just 1,250 miles short of the cheapest short-haul domestic awards under Alaska's recently updated award chart.

Of course, if you need to boost your Mileage Plan account, you could also sign up for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card, which is currently offering 30,000 miles after you spend $1,000 in the first 90 days. This card has a $75 annual fee, and it earns 3x miles on Alaska purchases and 1x miles on all other purchases.

Just remember to make your purchase by clicking through to an eligible retailer through the Mileage Plan Shopping portal by 11:59pm ET today!
