Quick summary

American Express is known for its fantastic lineup of travel credit cards that earn valuable Membership Rewards points. But Amex also offers a few great cash-back options if that's more your speed.

The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express now offers a $200 statement credit after you spend $2,000 in eligible purchases on your new card within the first six months of card membership. And its sister card, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, offers a $250 statement credit after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on your new card within the first six months of card membership.

Here's a closer look at the details on both cards.

Is the card worth it?

The no-annual-fee Blue Cash Everyday card (see rates and fees) offers a solid array of bonus categories. The Blue Cash Preferred is the more valuable option, but there are benefits to the Blue Cash Everyday if you are adamant about avoiding an annual fee.

Is the card worth it?

With the enticing bonus categories and a solid welcome offer, many who prefer cash-back cards will have no problem justifying the annual fee after the first year on the Blue Cash Preferred. It's best for those who spend lots on groceries and streaming services as well as transit and gas.

This card has a 0% APR for 12 months on purchases from the date of account opening, then a variable rate of 20.24% - 29.24% (see rates and fees).

Bottom line

You should always strive to earn the best bonus possible no matter what, but this is especially important for American Express credit cards. Amex has a policy that you can only earn one welcome offer per card per lifetime. This means you have one shot to earn a welcome offer for each of Amex's credit cards. If you apply for a card now with a less-than-stellar bonus, you won't be able to apply for it again in the future to earn a better bonus.

The current welcome offers on both the Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Card Preferred are both valuable and easy to earn, which makes it a great time to apply for either card.
