He previously served as the head of the travel section at LIFE and an editor-at-large at Bonappetit.com. He has slept on a pile of iron ore on the longest train in the world, picnicked with the king and queen of Malaysia, spent the night with polar bears, snuck into Afghanistan in disguise and been on both sides of the Korean DMZ.
