Editor's Note

This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information.

TSA PreCheck users get to avoid long airport security lines and the annoying process of taking off their shoes and removing laptops, liquids and other items from their carry-on bags. The program allows preapproved, low-risk travelers to expedite security.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, 99% of TSA PreCheck users have a wait time of less than 10 minutes when going through airport security.

Though TSA PreCheck costs $76.75 to $85 for a five-year membership, depending on the provider you choose, many credit cards cover the application fees.

As of 2025, TSA PreCheck is available at more than 250 airports and with 100-plus airlines.

Here's what you need to know.

Although the airport you are traveling through may offer a TSA PreCheck line, make sure the airline you are traveling on participates in the program.

If you are flying with one of the carriers on the list below, remember to enter your Known Traveler Number when booking your reservation to ensure the green TSA PreCheck checkmark appears on your boarding pass.

Most major carriers, domestic and foreign, participate; some smaller airlines also participate. Although some low-cost carriers, such as Breeze Airways and Spirit Airlines, offer TSA PreCheck, others, like Play Airlines, do not.

"The list of airlines that participate in TSA PreCheck fluctuates, based on a number of factors that include business operations," said a TSA spokesperson. Norwegian Air and Viva Air Colombia no longer maintain U.S. flights.

How to save money on TSA PreCheck

If you don't have Global Entry, you might not realize that it also includes a membership to TSA PreCheck.

Several cobranded airline, hotel and other credit cards offer up to $120 in statement credit reimbursement for the application fees associated with both programs. This credit is typically available every four to five years, though you should check the terms for your specific card for the exact frequency.

Some of the cards conveying complimentary TSA PreCheck and/or Global Entry memberships are:

Bottom line

TSA PreCheck allows members expedited entry to TSA security checkpoints at participating airports and airlines.

Speaking from personal experience, the program is well worth the investment for the time it saves you when traveling, particularly if you can save money using the right credit card.
