Inside the 'New' Hyatt Regency Maui Club Lounge
I don't like elite status because I need to feel fancy or important...I'm clearly not. I like elite status because it can save my family real money on our trips, while at the same time making travel more comfortable. With some hotel programs one way that elite status can help is by providing us lounge access on our stays. We have spent the last several days at the Hyatt Regency Maui, and I am so impressed with how much we have saved each day by having Regency Club access that it's time I share a some information about the lounge with you.

How to Get Access to the Hyatt Regency Club Maui
Before I make you want lounge access here too badly, let's start with how you can get it. Those with Hyatt Globalist status (enter to win Globalist status here!) can get lounge access for their room on all eligible stays, and those with Hyatt Explorist status can get lounge access for their room on four stays per year of up to seven days in length. The Hyatt Regency Maui is a place you would probably want to use one of those four lounge access 'certificates'.
You can also book a room with lounge access at the Hyatt Regency Maui either by paying more when booking with cash, or you can use 3,000 Hyatt points per night on top of paying a standard rate for a deluxe room (like a partial ocean view) or better. You could also stay on all points at 27,000 points per night for a Regency Club room instead of the 20,000 per night point rate for a standard room without club access.
Hyatt Regency Club Maui Location
On my last visit to the Hyatt Regency Maui the lounge was located high up in the hotel on a floor with guest rooms, but now it is on the lobby level with ample indoor seating as well as a lovely patio overlooking the swan court area of the property. To get to the lounge, walk through the atrium lobby, pass the swan court restaurant, and you will find the lounge on your right.

Breakfast in the Hyatt Regency Club Maui
The time zone in Hawaii most likely means you will be up early, and thankfully the Regency Club is open from 6:30 - 9:00AM for breakfast.

Breakfast generally consists of a selection of juices including orange and guava, fruit including pineapple, strawberries, bananas, apples, and my favorite, the papaya.

There is a selection of cereals, pastries, muffins, and breads. My standout favorite from that group was by far the banana bread.

There was a hot egg dish, which on our stay was either an egg white with goat cheese or scrambled eggs.

There were a couple of sliced meats, including smoked salmon that was very fresh on all of our visits.

The coffee is Hawaiian Paradise Coffee, and there is also a fancy machine at your disposal if you want more than a regular cup. I loved that they had a decent selection of "creamers" for the dairy and non-dairy drinkers, but if I was going to get super picky I would love to see coconut milk added to the line-up.

The staff in the lounge was always excellent, but this was especially true at breakfast when they were always cheerful and happy to talk about your plans on Maui for the day. I will add that they are also very diligent about asking for your room number, so don't think of just slipping in with another group...not that anyone reading this would.

Afternoon Snacks in the Hyatt Regency Club Maui
Lunch in the one meal of the day you can't really have at the lounge. There are mid-day snacks out from 11:30AM - 4:00PM such as mixed nuts, fruit, and cookies, as well as access to soft drinks and juice, but there isn't anything you would probably want to suffice as lunch. I can, however, vouch for the deliciousness of the macadamia nut cookies!

Evening Service at the Hyatt Regency Club Maui
On our second full day at the hotel we decided we had hit enough of our favorite eating spots and wanted to save a few dollars on dinner and just eat what we could at the Regency Club. The lounge is opening for evening service from 5PM - 7PM. I don't recommend doing this every single night since so much of the beauty of travel (to me) is food, but on nights when you are feeling lazy (and cheap), it can be a very solid option to just turn the lounge offerings into dinner. I was expecting to just fill up on some cheese and crackers, but I was pleasantly surprised by all that the lounge had to offer on this night.

First, there was a salad bar with spinach, strawberries, pecans, soft cheese, etc. that we turned into a delicious salad. Then there was pulled pork with rolls that we converted to little sandwiches. There were also other appetizers like cheese, crackers, tomatoes, chips, sliced breads, etc.

The three of us enjoyed a very full meal just before sunset at the Regency Club without spending an extra dime, and it was truly fantastic for the price. Dinner for three in the resort section of Lahaina can easily cost close to $100 or more if you aren't careful, so this was a great way to keep our overall food costs down.

Our seven year old was so tired by this night that getting a quick and 'free' dinner in the lounge was the best plan of them all!

If you wanted a drink to go with your dinner you could order that in the lounge for $4 - $6, depending on your drink of choice. This is likely much cheaper than what you would pay for a drink in many other areas of the resort.

The Regency Club has a dessert service from 7:30 - 8:30 in the evening, but truthfully the time zone prevented us from ever still being up and hungry at those times, so I can't give any first-hand info on what is offered for nightly desserts.
Overall Impressions of the Hyatt Regency Maui
I loved the new location on the lounge, and was especially impressed by the variety of evening offerings. I found the breakfast offerings to be totally sufficient, but I could see how after about three days you may be wishing for a little more variety or rotation of some dishes. Still, fresh fruit, Hawaiian coffee, and banana bread with a view can keep me pretty happy just about every single morning. For those visiting with toddlers, there are high chairs available on the outdoor patio.

From our morning coffee, to mid-day snacks, to even a full dinner, there is no question that having Regency Club access at the Hyatt Regency Maui can save a family hundreds of dollars on food and drink costs over the course of a multi-day stay. I will share some other ways to save on food costs while visiting this part of the island in future posts, but food in general in Maui is expensive, especially in the resort areas. If you can find a reasonable way to access the Regency Club at the Hyatt Regency Maui on your vacation I fully expect it to add serious convenience and cost savings to your family's trip.
