After a year of planning, I finally went on my Australian honeymoon. My husband and I spent three blissful weeks exploring the continent’s wild stretches and bustling cities … and burning through a huge stash of points and miles on flights and hotels.
Almost as soon as I landed back home, I started thinking about how to restock my frequent flyer accounts (for our next big trip, of course).
I used a ton of my American Airlines AAdvantage miles booking us Qantas first- and business-class awards, so I’m thinking of having my husband apply for the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Legend Mastercard®. For a limited time, you can earn 125,000 bonus miles after spending $15,000 on purchases in the first five months from account opening. That way, when we fly American together, he can get me into the Admirals Club.
For my part, I’m considering the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® credit card. I fly Alaska and its Oneworld partners a lot, so perks like eight annual Alaska Lounge passes and eight annual Wi-Fi passes (two per quarter) will come in handy, as will a fast track to elite status with 10,000 status points annually, plus earning 1 status point for every $2 spent on purchases. Right now, the card is offering 70,000 bonus points and a 25,000-point Global Companion Award after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 90 days from account opening, so I’m waiting for a big purchase.
As I look ahead, though, I’m also considering spending more time flying Delta, which is why I’ve been intrigued by the current offers out on the airline’s cobranded American Express cards, including:
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card: Earn two domestic round-trip Delta Comfort Flight Certificates (valid for travel to the U.S. 48, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands) and 50,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. A 21+ day advance purchase is required; up to $80 per person in taxes and fees apply. Terms and other restrictions apply. Offer ends Nov. 4.
Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card: Apply and find out your welcome offer. You may be eligible for as high as 90,000 bonus miles, plus earn a $300 statement credit after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. You may not be eligible for the maximum offer amount. Offer ends Nov. 4.
Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card: Apply and find out your welcome offer. You may be eligible for as high as 80,000 bonus miles, plus earn a $250 statement credit after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. You may not be eligible for the maximum offer amount. Offer ends Nov. 4.
The Reserve’s companion certificate, in particular, is what I’m interested in since my husband and I travel to the East Coast regularly, and that will come in handy.
The Companion Certificate is earned each year after renewing your account and requires payment of government-imposed taxes and fees of between $22 and $250 (for itineraries with up to four flight segments). Baggage charges and other restrictions apply. Delta Basic experiences are not eligible for this benefit.
Terms apply to all offers and benefits.
With so many options, which one(s) will I end up choosing?
