Between the two of us (but let’s be honest, mostly me!), my husband and I carry over 30 credit cards.
He’s a good sport about carrying several cards to maximize earning on bonus categories like dining and gas, but there’s one card he knows to have on hand when there’s not a bonus category that fits.
We use the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card to earn 2 miles per dollar on everyday purchases. In fact, the card’s easy-to-remember earning formula is why I chose it as our go-to shared card for miscellaneous expenses.
And for a limited time, there are 75,000 additional reasons to pick up the Venture Rewards card.
Right now, the Capital One Venture Rewards card has a limited-time offer of $300 in Capital One Travel stays credit in the first cardholder year, plus 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months after account opening. That’s worth over $1,000 in travel value.
In addition to earning 2 miles per dollar every time my husband pulls out his Venture card, we also earn 5 miles per dollar on hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars and activities booked through Capital One Travel, so we used it to supercharge our earning on recent trips.
And when it came time to redeem some of those miles, we took advantage of a transfer bonus to Qantas Frequent Flyer to save thousands of dollars on airline tickets during our Down Under honeymoon.
The Venture Rewards card even saved the day on our way back to the U.S. after our honeymoon. My husband had used it to pay for his Global Entry application because the card offers a statement credit for the $120 fee (once every four years). I did the same with my Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, so we breezed through customs and immigration.
I also used my Venture X card to make a hotel reservation in Melbourne through the Capital One Premier Collection, allowing me to take advantage of the card’s $300 annual travel statement credits on travel booked through Capital One Travel.
Now, we’re back to our everyday earning strategy, and already thinking through the next trip we’re going to use our Capital One miles for.

Both cards offer $1,000 cash back (or 100,000 points) after spending $8,000 on purchases in the first four months after account opening. That’s a generous 33% higher than the typical offer.
