Now, let’s talk about airport lounges, because they can completely change your travel day — if you know how to use them right.
Here at TPG, we spend plenty of time in airport lounges, and we’ve picked up a few simple do’s and don’ts to make the experience even better.
Don’t just walk in and sit down. The best spots in the lounge are usually hiding deeper inside — think quiet corners, hidden dining areas, runway views … even showers. Taking a quick lap and being selective can really upgrade the experience.
Do check the rules ahead of time. Many lounges now have waitlists and reservation systems, and showing up unprepared could leave you stuck outside — or turned away altogether. Still, you may have more ways to get in than you think.
Don’t lose track of time. While some lounges make boarding announcements, many still don’t. Combine that with free cocktails, a comfy chair and travel fatigue, and you’ve got a recipe for a missed flight. Take a moment to do this one quick thing to make sure you don’t miss boarding.
Do arrive early enough to enjoy it. If you’re sprinting into the lounge five minutes before boarding, you’re doing it wrong. You’ve got access to free meals, cocktails, outdoor terraces, showers and even sleep rooms — give yourself time to enjoy them.
Don’t forget lounge etiquette. Lounges are meant for peace and quiet, but they’re still shared spaces. You definitely don’t want to be the person who disturbs the peace and kills the vibe for everyone.
