Summer is a popular time to travel, but many top destinations — like beach resorts and European hotspots — can get absolutely sweltering. To beat the heat, I recommend traveling to cooler climes instead.
Some of our favorite coolcation destinations offer pleasant weather for outdoor pursuits, while others turn into full-on winter wonderlands this time of year.
Whether you’re looking to hike, ski or anything in between, here’s how to plan your dream coolcation this summer.
Or head south — far south. Our summer is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, so you’ll find comfortable temperatures for hiking in Patagonia or road tripping across New Zealand’s South Island. This is also a perfect time to eat and drink your way through Cape Town’s delicious restaurant and wine scene. (Maybe you could even stay in this exciting new points hotel.)
If that’s not cool enough for you, why not check Antarctica off your bucket list? The penguins are calling, and just getting there may be more fun than you’d expect.
