But since most of us don’t always have the points budget for such things, I’m a big fan of seats in the sky that take the most important facet of those bougie seats (the lie-flat nature of it all) and offer it for economy-ish pricing.
Enter: underrated and under-the-radar but still technically lie-flat economy seat options.
Air New Zealand’s Skycouch, which allows you to book three economy seats, flips up an “extra seat piece” that can turn a regular economy row into a little lie-flat bed, complete with a special comforter and pillow.
With ANA’s Couchii from Honolulu to Tokyo, we had the option of booking clusters of three or even four (!) economy seats to transform them in a manner similar to Skycouch.
Potentially as early as next year, if the schedule holds this time (it has slipped a number of years already), there may be another interesting option in economy when Air New Zealand introduces Skynest.
