I recently looked at my American Airlines AAdvantage account and was shocked to see I hadn’t accrued even half of the 125,000 Loyalty Points I’d need this qualification period to requalify for Platinum Pro status. Fortunately, AAdvantage gives you lots of ways to earn Loyalty Points.
For what it’s worth, you can fast-track this process with some help from the brand-new Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard®. In addition to this card’s juicy limited-time offer — which lets you earn 90,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first four months from account opening — it also features a Flight Streak bonus that lets you earn up to 15,000 additional Loyalty Points per qualification period. Plus, you’ll earn Loyalty Points on your spending, too.
But I earned mine a harder way. First, I selected 1,000 Loyalty Points as a Loyalty Point Reward to get to the milestone of 60,000 Loyalty Points. This unlocked a 20% bonus on the Loyalty Points I earn with select partners.
Then I booked an AAdvantage Hotels stay that earned 9,600 Loyalty Points, and clicked through the AAdvantage eShopping portal to earn miles and Loyalty Points on several online purchases.
I also made plans to spend $12,000 more on my AAdvantage® Aviator Silver World Elite MasterCard® (which is no longer available) before the end of February to earn 22,000 Loyalty Points (including 10,000 from reaching two more spending milestones). Plus, I booked some more flights that will give me another 14,600 Loyalty Points.
Despite all this, I’ll still be 7,000 Loyalty Points short of my goal. Luckily, one more AAdvantage Hotels stay should close the gap.
