It can sometimes feel like you have to jump through hoops to save money on airfare.

I’m all for downloading an app to help me find the cheapest airfare or rebooking my flights when the price drops, but I’m going to share some ways you can get a better price when you book your flight without all the circus tricks.

Here are a few of my favorites and who is eligible to use them:

Military service discounts: Many major airlines offer discounted airfare for active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families. The specifics vary per airline, but you can expect to save at least 5% on base fares and get extra perks like free checked bags, priority boarding or lounge access.

Student and young adult discounts: A handful of U.S. and international airlines offer airfare discounts to middle school, high school and college students. Most of these are geared toward students studying abroad, but one U.S. airline offers year-round discounts of at least 5% to travelers between 18 and 23.

Kids and babies: It’s pretty well known that lap infants under 2 years old can fly for free, but even parents of older kids can save money with certain airlines. Several airlines offer child fares on select routes, so always be sure to select the correct age range from the drop-down box when booking.

Air France-KLM’s “Flying Blue Family” program is one of your best bets for booking discounted award tickets for kids. Children ages 2 to 11 can save 25% on award flights when traveling with a parent.
