As you probably know if you’ve hung around with us for a while, most rewards credit cards offer new cardmembers a welcome bonus if they meet specific spending requirements in a set amount of time. And we aren’t talking small bonuses — some of these welcome bonuses can be worth over $1,000 in value!
Here are a few of the current welcome bonuses to consider if you’re in the market for a new card:
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is currently offering 125,000 bonus points after you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. TPG’s September 2025 valuations estimate that these bonus points are worth $2,563.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is TPG’s No. 1 recommended travel rewards card, and its annual fee is only $95, making it great for beginners and experts. New cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. This bonus is worth $1,538 by our valuations.
And with the American Express® Gold Card, you can find out your offer and see if you’re eligible for offers as high as 100,000 bonus points. These are awarded after you spend $6,000 on the card in the first six months of card membership. Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer. This bonus is worth up to $2,000 based on our valuations.
However, it’s not all about the welcome bonus. Many of these same cards provide ongoing value that can more than offset their annual fee year after year. Even once you consider the card’s annual fee, the combination of the welcome bonus and ongoing perks on some cards can get you well over $1,000 in first-year value.
