My occasional Delta Air Lines flights and everyday spending easily put me over the finish line to Silver status each year. Last year, I took advantage of bonus point opportunities and made it to Gold Medallion.
I love the perks of Delta elite status, like complimentary upgrades, priority boarding and complimentary checked bags, but what I love even more is how I can use it to earn status with other airlines.
When I took my first JetBlue flight earlier this summer, I used my Delta status to apply for a status match with the airline and earned TrueBlue Mosaic 1 for three months. Despite never having flown with JetBlue before, I enjoyed priority boarding, free checked bags, complimentary beverages and a better seat.
I’ve used my Delta status to do the same thing on Southwest Airlines and earned promotional A-List status for three months. To be honest, this benefit will be more valuable next year when seat selection goes into effect, but I did get a good boarding position and a free checked bag.
If you have status with any of the major airlines, you should be eligible to do what I did, too.
