We have huge changes to share with you from one of TPG’s favorite airline loyalty programs.
This morning, we finally received all the details about the new combined loyalty program for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines — news that we’d been anxiously awaiting ever since the two airlines merged last year.
The new Alaska-Hawaiian program is called Atmos Rewards, and it offers some never-before-seen ways to score an upgrade, earn elite status and get the most out of your points.
Even if you rarely fly Alaska or Hawaiian, you should be paying attention because Alaska miles (now Atmos points) offer some of the best partner redemptions out there, from American Airlines to Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines.
Here are three big things to know:
Alaska’s Mileage Plan award chart isn’t going anywhere: Alaska is keeping the predictable, distance-based award chart that has helped so many travelers score affordable partner redemptions, including this summer on American Airlines’ new Flagship Suites. There’d been plenty of fear that Alaska would ditch this chart and shift to dynamic award pricing. But that is not happening.
A brand-new premium credit card: Alaska and Hawaiian unveiled the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Credit Card, which comes with Alaska Lounge passes and valuable Global Companion Award certificates for a moderate $395 annual fee.
Upgrades to lie-flat seats: You know how most airlines give elite members upgrades to domestic first-class recliners? Alaska and Hawaiian will offer top-tier Atmos elite members complimentary upgrades to global business class — no certificate, points or cash required.
There was plenty more in today’s Atmos announcement, from a unique way to choose how you earn elite status to free Starlink Wi-Fi on all Alaska planes coming soon.
