There’s a reason the phrase is “getting there is half the fun” and not “planning the trip is half the fun.” And that’s because sometimes the planning stage can be downright stressful, especially when you are trying to redeem your points and miles for maximum value.
Here are my favorite tools for the peskier parts of the planning process:
Should I pay for a flight in cash or points?Points Path is a browser extension that displays award pricing alongside cash prices for select airlines in Google Flights. It also shows available transfer partners and suggests whether you should use cash or miles to purchase your tickets. Points Path comes in handy when I have a destination in mind, but I have the flexibility to choose an airline based on the best points pricing.
Which transfer partner should I use to book the flight? Point.me is a website that checks for award flights within over 30 loyalty programs across more than 150 airlines. You can search for your itinerary and Point.me will display award availability, including available transfer partners. Point.me then walks you through the entire points transfer and booking process to make sure you get the best redemption.
How do I find the best award availability? This used to be daunting, but nowadays Seats.aero lets you see the price and availability of every award flight seat across every route and cabin class, with more than a dozen popular loyalty programs. It allows you to click through from the search result to directly book that flight.
And its sister site, Rooms.aero, can help you find hotel award space across most major brands. Just enter your dates and destination and Rooms.aero will display cash and points pricing for standard rooms and suites and rate your redemption value so you know if you are getting the best award price.
