Hello from Sao Paulo! I’m currently celebrating the fact that, by landing here yesterday on a Turkish Airlines flight, I claimed my first continent of the Turkish Airlines 1-million-mile challenge. But let’s jump right into the news from the past week that resonated with readers the most.
First up, the Transportation Security Administration finally dropped its requirement that travelers remove their shoes at TSA checkpoints. Although I have TSA PreCheck, so I usually didn’t need to remove my shoes, I’m thrilled the U.S. is finally joining most other countries in waiving this requirement unless there’s a specific reason, such as secondary screening.
Meanwhile, Clear Plus is launching two types of concierge airport service for its members. One service, dubbed Concierge Express, might save you some time. But the second service, Concierge Gate Service, is more full-service and could be helpful for families and travelers who need extra help.
We also learned last week that Taiwan-based EVA Air will bring its brand-new premium economy cabin to the U.S. this fall when it begins service to Dallas from its Taipei hub. The 28-seat premium economy cabin has a 2-3-2 configuration and offers seats with 42 inches of pitch.
Bilt Rewards announced plans for three new card products, as well as the ability to finally earn points on mortgage payments.
