Most of us have a few features we look for when it comes to a top-notch flight redemption: Lie-flat seats, a strong inflight menu and access to a great lounge immediately come to mind.
Perhaps the biggest area where airlines are competing for your business, though, is inflight tech — from the seatback screens to the faster and free Wi-Fi we’re seeing on more and more planes.
It’s a huge shift for the airline, which has long had — let’s call it “uncompetitive” — pricing, particularly as JetBlue, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have moved to make inflight surfing free.
But what will be the most coveted seat, suite or inflight amenity a few years from now?
I traveled to Germany last week to get a rare sneak peek, of sorts, into the future of air travel.
Picture screencasting your phone onto your seatback screen like you would using CarPlay in your vehicle … or making dinner reservations at your destination using the inflight entertainment system.
One of the trends I heard about a lot: extra-special business-class or first-class suites at the front of the plane — which are smaller in number than the former first-class seats that many airlines have ditched (farewell, soon, to American Airlines’ Flagship First!) but increasingly sophisticated and luxurious.
