We can’t look back at this last week without sharing that our hearts continue to be with all who were affected by American Airlines Flight 5342, which was involved in an accident that tragically ended a remarkable run of safety for U.S. airlines.
We know many are anxiously awaiting answers on what went wrong to cause this disaster. The National Transportation Safety Board has said a full investigation into what led to the accident will likely take a year, but preliminary reports may be available within 30 days.
TPG will, of course, keep you updated on the things travelers may want to know as that unfolds.
While we keep those affected in our uppermost thoughts, there have been other travel developments from the past week that we will summarize for you, too, while acknowledging that they pale in gravity and importance to the events at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
In an interesting coincidence, there is also a planned revival of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts brand, which merged with Marriott International several years back to become the world’s largest hotel company. It remains to be seen what this will mean, including whether it could lead to any sort of 2.0 version of the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty program down the road.
Yesterday, Delta Air Lines implemented the long-anticipated (and, for some, long-dreaded) restrictions on the number of times you can enter a Sky Club as a perk of various premium credit cards. The good news there is you can stack the total number of visits that come with different credit cards to increase your visit cap.
