Huge changes coming to Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club
This week, Virgin Atlantic announced sweeping changes to the way that you can redeem Virgin points, which will take effect at the end of this month.
A new system of dynamic pricing will be introduced in exchange for the airline making all seats available on points on all flights. We’ll lose the guarantee of 12 fixed-price reward seats on every flight and the benefit of Gold Reward flights. It’s yet to be seen what actual pricing will look like, but while some flights may be slightly cheaper, most could end up being exponentially expensive.
On the plus side, earning rates will improve for some. Companion vouchers will also change — and whether this is good or bad depends on your individual situation.
Would you board a mystery flight to a destination unknown? Or better yet, take an around-the-world journey, never knowing what your next stop will be?
That’s exactly what we did when Scandinavian Airlines joined SkyTeam last month, as Liam Spencer and I were challenged to take a mystery journey around the entire world going in opposite directions, starting and ending in Copenhagen.
It’s like no other content we have ever made before — and in my most tired, delirious moments, I cursed my lack of judgment in saying yes!
Only after arriving in each destination did we find out where we would be going next. In total, we both flew for over 100 hours and 50,000 miles.
We also have a new style of video review coming on The Points Guy Arrivals YouTube channel in the coming days, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Have a wonderful week!
