They say good things take time. While that’s often the case, when it comes to travel, the decision-making process must be shortened to take advantage of deals.
Today’s deal is for frequent Southwest Airlines flyers, specifically those who have been eyeing the Southwest Companion Pass, which essentially allows two to travel for the price of one.
With the pass, you can bring a travel companion for free on any Southwest flight, and they just have to pay $5.60 in taxes and fees. The Companion Pass is good for unlimited travel while the pass is valid, and can be used for Rapid Rewards points bookings.
These passes are earned by taking 100 qualifying one-way flights or earning 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.
Through June 26, new applicants can earn 85,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 within the first three months of account opening with the three personal Southwest credit cards:
With that bonus, you’re well over halfway to earning a Companion Pass. As for the rest of the points, know that all Southwest cardholders get a 10,000-point Companion Pass-earning boost each year. And you’ll earn at least 3,000 more points just by doing the spending you need to earn the bonus. This will decrease the points you need to just 37,000.
You’ve got more than six months to earn the remaining points by the end of the calendar year. That’s still a lot of spending, but far more attainable than having to start from scratch.
So I ask you — if you could get a Southwest Companion Pass quicker than the normal route, would you wait and take the long road or veer toward the shortcut?
