Some quick math put that question to rest last year.
I managed to rack up more than $1,800 in direct cash savings in 2023 thanks to my Amex Platinum — about 2 1/2 times the card’s annual fee.
I took advantage of the separate $200 hotel and airline fee credits and received a statement credit of $100 for renewing my Global Entry membership. I used the $15 monthly Uber credit (plus the additional $20 in December) by either taking rides or placing Uber Eats orders for an additional $200 in savings. Plus, I got back $20 monthly in digital entertainment credits, offsetting portions of my subscriptions to Hulu, Peacock, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
My wife and I saved hundreds more at hotels, too, using Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts property credits and earning a $200 statement credit thanks to an Amex Member Week offer we activated and met; it essentially covered my on-property birthday dinner last November at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa.
That $1,800-plus in savings doesn’t account for airport lounge access and automatic Hilton and Marriott elite status — or the immense value of earning and redeeming Membership Rewards points. Enrollment is required for select benefits.
