Whether I’m shopping for jeans or hotel stays, I’m always on the hunt for a good deal. I’ve been using online shopping portals like Rakuten to earn cash back when I shop online for years, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned I could potentially double my return by opting to receive my cash back in the form of American Express Membership Rewards points.
Rakuten is an online shopping portal that partners with over 3,500 online retailers, like Home Depot, Marriott and Nordstrom, and offers you cash back on a percentage of your purchase. Most retailers offer between 1% and 4%, but there are times when it gets as high as 10%-20% cash back on purchases.
I will earn 3,000 Amex points after I complete an upcoming Vrbo stay that I booked using Rakuten. Those points are valued at $60 … not bad for a stay I would have booked anyway.
