Under-the-radar points and miles programs
When you think of earning and redeeming points and miles for travel, you might think of some of the more popular programs and premium travel cards like American Express Membership Rewards and The Platinum Card® from American Express, but there are plenty of under-the-radar programs that can help you meet your goals.
As I write this — almost a week before it will land in your inbox — I’m sitting in a cozy Vacasa overlooking the slopes at Steamboat Springs in Colorado (pictured above). The one-bedroom apartment my husband and I rented through Vacasa is about a 10-minute walk from the slopes and cost us just 13,500 Wyndham Rewards points per night.
But you don’t have to like skiing to get value from Wyndham’s partnership with Vacasa. After all, Vacasa has vacation homes you can book throughout North America, including in Hawaii and Canada. Some are even pet-friendly.
You can book Vacasa properties for 15,000 points per night per bedroom, although there are unpublished caps on the per-bedroom cost when redeeming points (currently, the cap seems to be around $350 per bedroom) and you have to call to book. Cardholders of select Wyndham Rewards credit cards that offer a 10% discount on award stays can snag Vacasa properties for 13,500 points per bedroom per night.
And don’t forget about underrated credit cards — for example, the Citi Premier® Card is a staff favorite with a phenomenal range of bonus categories and 18 different transfer partners.
