Premium perks and benefits

by Katie Genter, Lead writer

It’s true, The Platinum Card® from American Express has a high annual fee. But it offers an extensive set of perks (many of which require enrollment) that can easily offset the annual fee for many travelers.

If you’ve been on the fence about getting the card, now might be the time since you still have a few months to take advantage of the benefits before they reset at the end of the year. Some of these perks, such as digital entertainment credits, Uber Cash credits and Walmart+ membership credits, are offered monthly.

Others are offered on an annual basis. For example, the $200 airline fee credit provides up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year for incidental airline fees charged by one qualifying airline you selected when enrolling in this benefit.

Another valuable perk is the $200 hotel credit, which gives members up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year for prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection bookings (minimum two-night requirement) made through Amex Travel — you’ll also receive benefits during your hotel stays, like early check-in (if available), late checkout and daily food and beverage credits.

Amex Platinum cardmembers can also enjoy biannual Saks Fifth Avenue statement credits. Specifically, cardmembers get up to a $50 statement credit from January through June and up to a $50 statement credit from July through December each year.

There are also up to $189 in statement credits per calendar year for an annual Clear Plus membership and up to $300 in statement credits per calendar year for eligible Equinox membership fees.

The Amex Platinum can make a lot of sense if you use the statement credits and other perks it provides. To learn more, check out these stories:
