Thanks for opening one of the few non-election-focused emails to hit your inbox today. Since you’re here, you’re probably looking to talk aviation — and we’ve got you covered.
The biggest airline news since my last newsletter is on the loyalty front. United Airlines announced big changes in qualifying for elite status. The TL;DR? It doesn’t get easier — though there are some positive changes to PlusPoints.
The changes, which affect all tiers of MileagePlus elite status, are being made as carriers have struggled in recent years to deliver on the perks they’ve promised as the numbers of frequent flyers with elite status have ballooned.
It all follows a broader trend across the nation’s big global carriers, which have jacked up capacity to places like Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece as Americans’ appetite for those Southern European hot spots continues unabated.
