New member promo: Earn 5,000 points for joining IHG One Rewards

Originally reported by Frequent Flyer Bonuses, the IHG One Rewards program is offering a promotion to help new members earn free nights faster. If you're not already a member, you can earn 5,000 bonus points by completing a single stay. Here are all the details:

• To take advantage of this promotion, you must register for an IHG One Rewards account through the "Stay and Get 5k Points" offer page by Sept. 13.
• Then, you must book and complete a qualifying stay within 21 days of the date on which you registered. Be sure to enter your new IHG One Rewards membership number during booking.
• To qualify, the stay must be booked directly through the IHG website, app or reservation call center. You can also book through some authorized travel agents, but online agencies like Expedia and Booking do not qualify. The total spend must exceed $30 per night (before taxes and fees).
• Most IHG properties qualify for this promotion, though some Six Senses locations that do not participate in IHG One Rewards and some Iberostar Beachfront Resorts that aren't yet integrated into IHG One Rewards are excluded.
• In addition to the IHG One Rewards points you would normally earn for your stay, you'll receive 5,000 bonus points that will post to your account within six weeks.

As of June 2024, TPG values IHG points at 0.5 cents each, so this bonus is worth roughly $25 toward future stays. Keep in mind that these bonus points do not qualify for elite status.

If you haven't joined IHG One Rewards yet, now is a great time to do so. IHG's portfolio includes over 6,000 properties and 19 brands, ranging from extended-stay options like Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites to luxury hotels like Regent and InterContinental.

Before booking your IHG stay (or any stay at any hotel), be sure to check the hotel's offers page for current promotions. These promotions can earn you even more points, but you generally must register for them before booking a qualifying stay.

If your stay qualifies for multiple promotions, you can often stack them. For instance, IHG is currently offering 2,000 bonus points for every two nights you stay. So, if you registered for an account before Sept. 13 and booked a two-night stay within three weeks of registering, you could take advantage of both promotions and earn 7,000 bonus points.
