It's no secret that much of the travel industry is bullish on a big-time travel rebound in 2022. TPG has written before about how pent-up wanderlust from being forced to stay home for much of the past 18 months has travelers itching to hop on a plane to reconnect with friends and family — and rediscover the joy of getting away.

Many of the key players in travel have ramped up operations in anticipation of this rebound, including Hilton. The hotel giant will begin welcoming guests to dozens of new properties it plans to open around the world next year.

While U.S. travel is expected to rise by at least 28% in 2022, international travel is widely thought to be ready to soar in the new year. The World Travel & Tourism Council estimates international travel numbers could be as much as 228% higher than in 2021, as more countries ease COVID restrictions and reopen their borders.

And Hilton's expansion is spread across its diverse portfolio and in destinations around the world.

Here's a closer look at some key regions with exciting new hotels — many of which are currently accepting reservations.

United States

Conrad, the company's luxury hotel brand, will debut the Conrad Los Angeles in the spring. It's a mixed-use development in downtown LA featuring a 28-story hotel designed by architectural icon Frank Gehry that will have a variety of amenities such as a spa and a rooftop terrace with expansive views of the city.

The property is not yet open for reservations.

Downtown Nashville's getting a new hotel with the Embassy Suites Convention Center property, opening in April. This is an all-suite hotel perfectly located in one of the best downtown areas in the U.S. It's next to the Music City Center and the Bridgestone Arena, and is within walking distance of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which is an absolute must-visit when in Nashville. The hotel will also provide close proximity to Nashville's bountiful nightlife.

Reservations are already open for the new Nashville property. There are weekend rates in April 2022 that can be booked for as low as $242 a night. Hilton Honors members have lots of availability across the 2022 calendar, though nearly every night will cost 70,000 points.

Mexico and the Caribbean

For beachgoers, there are many exciting new options coming to the tropics. The fall of 2022 will see a new Waldorf-Astoria opening in Cancun. This resort was built on 100 acres of secluded Mayan coastline and promises some unforgettable ocean views and ambiance. Reservations are already open, with rooms in October and November available for between $499-$541 per night.

Unfortunately, if you want to use Hilton Honors points, right now it looks like each night will cost a steep 95,000 points.

Mexico will also gain a new Conrad property with the opening of the Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya — which is now accepting reservations for Jan. 15, 2022, and beyond. The resort features 11 restaurants and bars along with multiple oceanfront pools. And if you want to trade relaxation for adventure, guests can easily access underwater caves, amusement parks and the city center of Tulum — all within 30 minutes of the property.

Rates start at $692 or 90,000 points per night — giving you over 0.9 cents per point (once you factor in taxes and fees).

Other notable openings in Mexico and the Caribbean include:

  • Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort: Accepting reservations for June 12, 2022 and beyond — rates start at $401 or 89,000 points per night
  • Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort: Not yet accepting reservations but expects to open in summer 2022

Asia, the Middle East and Europe

Asia is another market Hilton is expecting to see a strong resurgence in travel next year. It's opening three major hotels in the Pacific Rim, including the Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa. This will mark the first property branded by Hilton’s flagship brand, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, in the Maldives. Located on Amingiri Island in the Male Atoll, the hotel will have 109 beach and water villas (like the one in the featured image of this article) when it opens in March. Each villa comes with its own private pool. The resort will have six restaurants and bars — including an adults-only champagne and gin bar.

This property was originally slated to welcome its first guests in late 2021, though it's now aiming for an early 2022 opening. However, it's not yet accepting reservations, so it may be a while longer before it's actually available for booking.

The Middle East is another key market that Hilton is looking to for increased tourism. The Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah — opening in spring 2022 but currently accepting reservations for Sept. 1 and beyond — will offer a beachfront location and a number of dining and shopping options. Hilton Honors members looking to use points can expect to spend about 60,000 points per night in the fall.

Other new properties include hotels located in London, the Greek island of Santorini, a new Waldorf Astoria in Kuwait and a Conrad hotel in Sardinia. All are due to open by the fall of 2022.
