Delta Details Its New Premium Economy Product — Delta Premium
Earlier this year, we told you that Delta Air Lines was planning to launch a new premium economy product on its A350 aircraft, but there weren't many specifics. Now, Delta has detailed that it's adding the new premium economy cabin to its aircraft and calling it Delta Premium. The carrier will debut the new Delta Premium cabin on select international flights beginning in fall 2017.
Here are the highlights of the new Delta Premium experience:
- Seats feature 38 inches of pitch, 19 inches of width and 7 inches of recline. Each seat will also have adjustable leg rests and head rests
- A 13.3-inch in-flight entertainment screen
- In-seat power ports
- Pre-departure beverage service and fresh menu selections while in flight
- A Westin Heavenly blanket and a TUMI amenity kit, featuring Malin+Goetz products
- Sky Priority service, including faster check-in and security, priority boarding and expedited baggage service.
Delta will roll out the new Delta Premium cabin beginning with its A350s, which are entering service next year. The A350 will feature 38 Delta Premium seats, 32 Delta One suites and 226 Main Cabin seats. Based on pictures, it looks like the Delta Premium cabin will be arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration. In addition to the new A350, the carrier will begin offering the Delta Premium cabin on its 777 fleet beginning in 2018. It's also leaving open the option to add the cabin to additional aircraft in its fleet.

Unlike American Airlines' new premium economy product, which only has leg rests on bulkhead seats, it appears like Delta Premium will offer the feature on all seats within the cabin.

In addition to the announcement of a new Delta Premium product, Delta's also detailed that its new Delta One suite will debut on its A350 aircraft. Each Delta One suite will feature a sliding door, offering passengers a next level of privacy.
As of now, we don't know what routes specifically Delta's A350 will be flying on, so there's no telling when these premium economy seats will become available to book and how much they'll cost. But, from an IT perspective, booking Delta Premium on the carrier's site shouldn't be too tough of an addition, as the premium economy structure is already in place with its partners — especially if Delta chooses to use the W fare class.
Overall, this new cabin from Delta appears to be a step in the right direction. For long-haul flights, this new Delta Premium cabin could enhance the travel experience by offering a level above the standard Main Cabin seats. The addition of foot and leg rests, a comfortable blanket, TUMI amenity kit and larger-than-average in-flight entertainment screen are welcome improvements for Delta passengers. Stay tuned in the coming months for more information on Delta's A350 and when this cabin could become bookable.
