Deer Valley to double skiable terrain, add new ski village and make other improvements
Utah's Deer Valley Resort plans to add 3,700 skiable acres, a new village and other enhancements for the 2025-2026 ski season, the resort's operating company announced Thursday.
The project, which will more than double Deer Valley's current skiable terrain, will include 16 new lifts and a 10-passenger gondola; it marks the first significant terrain expansion for the Park City resort in 16 years, according to Alterra Mountain Company, owner and operator of 17 year-round resorts.
Funding for the project comes from a joint partnership with Alterra and Extell Development Company. It's part of a $500-million capital investment announced by Alterra earlier this year to enhance its portfolio of resorts.
Additionally, Alterra says the aforementioned new village and portal will "improve access to the resort while adding world-class lodging, dining, and retail amenities." This includes more than 1,200 new parking spots and a new skier services facility with more ski school, equipment rentals, retail and food and beverage amenities.
Beyond ski-specific amenities, the new village plans to have more than 800 hotel rooms across multiple properties and approximately 1,700 residential units for guests.
Other improvements include a new snowmaking and snow grooming system for the ski-only destination in the Wasatch Mountains.
When completed, Deer Valley will offer 5,726 acres of ski-only terrain spread across 10 mountains, most of which could open as early as 2025.

Guests will be able to access the resort's new terrain and village from a new eastern portal via U.S. Route 40.
"Deer Valley Resort is known across the globe for its unique approach to first-class service. We are committed to building on their well-respected reputation and legacy by attracting some of the world's best brands, in addition to elevating the living experience by creating luxury residences with exquisite architecture and design," Gary Barnett, founder and chairman of the Extell Development Company, said in a statement. "This partnership with Deer Valley brings together two of the very best in the business of real estate, service and hospitality, and we look forward to working with them to create what will be the crown jewel of Utah."
Deer Valley is not the only high-end Utah resort with expansion plans. Montage Deer Valley unveiled the recent renovation of its 154 guest rooms, suites and dining outlets.

The rooms have "BraytonHughes selected textures, colors, shapes and furnishings that pay tribute to the heritage and natural beauty of the region, blending traditional and classic elements with a contemporary design," according to a Montage Deer Valley press release Aug. 23. "Design accents include houndstooth fabric pillows, mirrors framed by wood with leather strapping and silver rivet detailing, and subtle expressions of silver throughout both the in-room color palette and materials, to reflect the rich mining history."
