Treating your friends and family members to a nice meal is a great way to connect and share community. It’s also a great way to earn bonus rewards that you can later use for travel.
And if you’re an eligible American Express cardmember, dining out could be even more rewarding when you share your personalized referral link (and the applicant is approved and gets the card) through May 22.

Refer a friend for these cards
During Amex’s Eat to Earn promotion, eligible cardmembers of select American Express cards can earn 10 additional rewards per dollar spent at restaurants for three months, on up to $25,000 in purchases, if a friend applies for a new card through their referral link, is approved and gets a card. The existing customer will receive the bonus as 10 additional Membership Rewards points, 10% additional cash back (in the form of reward dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit) or 10 additional miles for every dollar spent — depending on the cardmember’s eligible card (terms apply).
Plus, these rewards are in addition to whatever you may already be earning on purchases at restaurants with your card, and they're also on top of the standard bonus you can receive after an eligible approval.
The offer is only for a limited time, so your friend must use your link to apply by May 22.
Many popular Amex cards are eligible for this offer, including ones that already offer a solid return on dining at restaurants. Here’s a snapshot of participating cards:
- Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express
- Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express
- Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
- Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
- American Express® Gold Card
- The Platinum Card® from American Express
For example, the Amex Gold Card already offers 4 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at restaurants — which means that you could wind up earning a total of 14 points per dollar (4 as the standard earning rate plus an additional 10 at restaurants) on these purchases for the next three months (on up to $25,000 in spending) after a friend applies, is approved and gets a card through your referral link.

How to refer a friend
There are two ways to refer a friend to apply for an eligible American Express card. You can share your referral link through SMS text messaging or use the email referral option located in your online account.
From the American Express app on your smartphone or other device, you can easily find these options by logging in to your account and tapping on "Membership" at the bottom of the home screen. There, you’ll find the option to “Refer a Friend.” Click on that button to be taken to your offer.
There, you can access the terms for your referral bonus and see the welcome offer your friend can get (which may vary by cardmember).
Note that this limited-time referral offer is in addition to the standard referral bonus you’d receive. In the above scenario on the Amex Gold Card, you could earn 10 additional Membership Rewards points on purchases at restaurants along with a one-time bonus of 10,000 points (up to the cap of 100,000 points per calendar year) for your eligible referral.
However, existing cardholders may see targeted offers. Be sure to check your own account for complete details on what’s available to you.
And your friend or family member isn’t even limited to the card from which you sent the referral. They can opt to apply for any eligible American Express card. No matter which card they choose, you can still earn the referral bonus (and extra rewards) on the card you selected.
Special offer for new Gold Card members
This offer is particularly appealing to anyone who’s been considering a new American Express Gold Card in the near future.
When you refer a friend or family member to get a new Amex Gold during the Eat to Earn promotional period, they can earn even more through a special welcome offer. New cardmembers who apply through a referral link by May 22 can receive the following (if they are approved and ultimately get the card):
- They can earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after using their new card to make $6,000 in purchases within their first six months of card membership. Plus, they can earn 20% back in statement credits on purchases at restaurants worldwide for three months, up to $50 back. Terms apply.
Both you and your referrals can enjoy additional rewards on purchases at restaurants when you utilize this limited-time offer.

If they are approved (and get the card), you can begin earning 10 additional rewards per dollar at restaurants for three months, on up to $25,000 in purchases.
And if your eligible referral gets an Amex Gold Card through your link, they’ll enjoy both a standard welcome offer along with 20% back in statement credits on their own restaurant purchases, up to $50 in three months.
