Chase and DoorDash launch 1st food delivery credit card

If you've ever wondered how you lived without food delivery, you're not alone. A recent study found that 60% of Americans order takeout or food delivery at least once a week.
Now, the first DoorDash credit card is available to help you rake in when you order takeout.
Here's what you need to know about the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard, the newest card from Chase.

The new DoorDash Rewards Mastercard®
Chase and DoorDash have partnered to launch the first credit card from DoorDash.
This new card has no annual fee and earns cash-back rewards you can use to pay for your DoorDash orders in addition to the standard options of redeeming for a statement credit or gift cards.
You'll receive a free year of DashPass (a $96 value), giving you benefits like unlimited $0 delivery fees, 5% DoorDash credits back on pickup orders and member-only offers.
Cardmembers earn cash back at the following rates (with no earning limits):
- 4% cash back on DoorDash and Caviar orders through the DoorDash platform.
- 3% cash back on online or in-store restaurant purchases.
- 2% cash back on online or in-store grocery purchases.
- 1% cash back on all other purchases.
As a cardholder, you'll enjoy benefits such as 10% off one order each month (up to $15 per order) on convenience, grocery, alcohol, retail and DashMart purchases (through Dec. 31, 2024), and extended warranty and purchase protection.
In addition to the benefits unique to this card, you'll also get World Elite Mastercard benefits such as a monthly $5 DoorDash credit as an eligible DashPass member and a $5 Lyft credit after taking three rides in one calendar month.

Are other Chase DoorDash benefits going away?
TPG director of content Nick Ewen attended a launch event for the card in New York City on Tuesday.
He took the opportunity to ask how the launch of this card fits with the existing partnership between Chase and DoorDash, which gives those with the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve a complimentary DashPass membership through Dec. 31, 2027. (Sapphire Reserve cardholders also receive $5 in monthly DoorDash credits through that date).
Ed Olebe, president of cobranded cards at Chase, indicated that these benefits were "complementary" to the new card. He said he didn't expect any changes since the DoorDash Mastercard is really aimed at loyal customers of the delivery service. In contrast, the other Chase cards feature DoorDash perks as just one part of a broader value proposition.

Should I get the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard?
If you're loyal to DoorDash and/or Caviar, you may enjoy receiving 4% cash back on your orders. You'll pay no annual fee and enjoy benefits like a free year of DashPass and 10% off one order each month (up to $15 per order). The card also offers 3% and 2% cash back on restaurant and grocery purchases, respectively.
However, if you spend a lot on dining out and groceries, you'll be much better off opting for a card like the American Express® Gold Card, which earns an effective 8% return on these purchases, including on DoorDash orders based on TPG valuations.

Bottom line
The new DoorDash Rewards Mastercard is a great option for anyone who frequently enjoys the modern luxury of food delivery and is loyal to DoorDash. It has no annual fee and offers bonus cash-back rates at restaurants and supermarkets. However, if you order in a lot, there are other cards that offer a better return on your spending.
