Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here – Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard

American’s co-branded Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select cards are the latest co-branded cards to get a new round of increased sign-up offers. Starting Wednesday, you can earn 60,000 miles when you spend $3,000 in the first three months on the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard.

The standard offer for these cards is 30,000 AAdvantage miles after you spend $1,000 in the first three months, so you’re getting double the usual bonus if you sign up now. You will have to spend $2,000 more in the first three months, but the $3,000 minimum spending requirement is still relatively reasonable — at least compared to the $5,000 you’ll have to spend in three months to get 50,000 miles with the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard.

Based on TPG’s valuations, 60,000 AAdvantage miles are worth $840. There are plenty of great ways to put those miles to use, from booking Reduced Mileage Awards to locking in a round-trip economy award to Europe. See this post on the top uses of 60k AA miles for more inspiration.

Both of these cards have a $95 annual fee that’s waived the first year, and neither charges foreign transaction fees. You’ll earn 2x miles on American purchases and 1 mile per dollar on everything else — and with the business version, you’ll also earn 2x miles on purchases made with telecommunications merchants, car rental merchants and at gas stations. Other perks include a free checked bag on domestic AA flights (for you and up to four companions), preferred boarding and a 10% rebate on redeemed miles — up to 10,000 each year.

Bottom Line

We last saw these elevated 60,000-mile bonuses in April-July, so now’s the time to apply if you missed out the last time. Both the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select and the CitiBusiness Platinum Select offer some nice perks when you fly American, and the sign-up bonus could put you well on your way to your next award trip.

How would you redeem 60,000 AAdvantage miles?
