A few years ago, I reached a point where I was no longer a rewards card beginner, and I simply wanted more perks. There was one card I had in mind.
The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is packed with perks that are simple to maximize, making it easy to justify carrying the card year after year. Here are four reasons why it became my first premium card, and could be a great option for you, too.
No. 1: The Venture X pays for itself.
Annual fees were always a blocker for me when it came to justifying a premium card, but the math makes sense on the Venture X. For one, the card’s $395 annual fee is notably lower than some of its competitors.
But that’s not all, since the card literally pays you to hold it. Factor these two perks together: You’ll receive a $300 annual travel credit for bookings made through Capital One Travel, and you’ll earn 10,000 Capital One miles upon each account anniversary.
Capital One miles are worth 1.85 each, per TPG’s December 2025 valuations, so those 10,000 miles are worth $185. Add those two benefits together, and you get $485 in automatic value. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.
No. 2: The lounge access is excellent. Venture X cardholders can access the growing network of beautiful Capital One Lounges, plus more than 1,300 Priority Pass lounges worldwide.
No. 3: The points are easy to earn and simple to redeem. The Venture X makes earning rewards as easy as it gets. You’ll earn 2 miles per dollar spent on everyday purchases without worrying about memorizing bonus categories. Once you’ve earned those miles, you can redeem them at a fixed value or transfer them to one of Capital One’s 15-plus transfer partners for maximum value.
No. 4: You can secure the card’s best offer in four years. Now is a fantastic time to become a Venture X cardholder because you can get its highest bonus since it debuted four years ago: New cardholders can earn 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first six months from account opening.
That’s worth $1,850 in travel, by our valuations, which is a stellar deal for a $395-annual-fee card.
I’d recommend the Venture X to anyone who’s ready to take that next step in their award travel strategy — especially right now while you can get the limited-time 100,000-point bonus. The card’s perks are uncomplicated, and you’ll receive fantastic value with just a little bit of effort.
