It’s a huge day in the world of credit card news. After teasing some upcoming changes last week, Chase is now back with details on its massive overhaul of the much-loved Chase Sapphire Reserve®, and the launch of the brand-new Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠.
Often, major card refreshes contain good news for some and not-so-good news for others, and this Sapphire Reserve update is likely no exception. The card will still earn bonus points on dining and some travel purchases, but the specific earning and redemption rates are going to be higher in some cases and lower in others.
When it comes to annual value, the $300 annual travel credit and lounge access are staying the same — and they’re just the beginning of the card’s list of travel and lifestyle credits and memberships. For example, there will be $500 in new annual credits toward stays booked through Chase’s The Edit hotel program and $300 in new annual statement credits for StubHub or Viagogo purchases of concert and event tickets, to name a few.
In total, cardholders will have access to a staggering value of over $2,300 in credits and discounts across a variety of travel and lifestyle categories each year. On the flip side, the annual fee is increasing.
But the news may be even better for business owners.
We also learned that there is a brand-new card coming! Chase is introducing the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ as its first premium business card. It offers similar earning rates and travel benefits as the revised personal version, but it also includes over $2,000 in credits and discounts annually across both travel- and business-focused categories.
And while we can’t say for sure yet, we hope to see some excellent welcome offers come with the launch of these new and refreshed cards June 23, given all the buzz we are already seeing from Chase.
So is all of this good news? Bad news? Well, as you probably can guess, it’s going to depend a lot on your point of view and spending and earning patterns, but you can bet there is much more to come as our team crunches the numbers.
In the meantime, check out these stories for more details:
