There are plenty of credit cards that can help you earn points and miles on everyday expenses like groceries, gas and dining.
And they’re great to have in your wallet.
But so many of us leave points on the table with those endless “other” expenses — like the $1,700 I spent at the veterinarian last year, or the thousands of dollars more I spent on insurance premiums, utility bills, car repairs … you name it.
For a modest $95 annual fee, you can earn 2 miles per dollar spent on those everyday purchases that don’t find their way into bonus spending categories.
As an added bonus (no pun intended) right now, new applicants for the Venture Rewards card can earn a sizable bonus: 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months, plus you’ll earn a $250 credit for the Capital One Travel portal good for your first cardholder year.
That’s a hefty bonus worth up to $1,000 on direct redemptions through Capital One. But with the right transfers to hotel and airline partners, you could get up to $1,638 in combined value out of that welcome offer, per TPG’s March 2025 valuations.
And options abound when it comes time to redeem because you could transfer 12,000 miles to British Airways Executive Club for a short-haul U.S. flight on partner American Airlines. Or, you could transfer a larger chunk of miles to British Airways, and then move those Avios to Qatar Airways Privilege Club to put toward a flight in its coveted Qsuite — you can fly from New York to Doha for as little as 70,000 Avios plus taxes and fees in one of those.
