The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is a favorite of TPG staffers, and this card packs a real punch for its $95 annual fee. Along with some notable bonus-earning categories for dining, select streaming services and online groceries, Chase has some of the most valuable transfer partners, including World of Hyatt.
Another good option is the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. While it won’t get you into the small but mighty Capital One Lounge portfolio, I think this card’s top feature is the fact that you can earn 2 miles per dollar spent on all purchases.
That means you’re earning double miles on those prescriptions, vet bills, utility payments and other expenses that only earn 1 point per dollar with most cards.
Finally, if you’re just looking to earn as many points as possible on everyday spending, few cards (if any) beat the American Express® Gold Card if you’re like me and spend a ton on dining and groceries.
While the $325 annual fee (see rates and fees) isn’t a drop in the bucket, the 4 points per dollar spent on dining and U.S. supermarkets (capped at $50,000 and $25,000 annually, respectively, then it becomes 1 point per dollar) can’t be beat. A variety of statement credits (like up to $10 per month toward U.S. Uber rides* and $7 per month at U.S. Dunkin’ locations) help offset the fee, too (enrollment is required for select benefits).

*Card must be added to Uber app, and you can redeem with any Amex card.
