For example, you can book a Star Alliance round-the-world award ticket with up to 12 flights and eight stopovers through ANA Mileage Club. The mileage cost of this award will depend on the distance of your itinerary; for example, an itinerary with flights totaling 11,001 to 14,000 miles would be 60,000 miles in economy or 90,000 miles in business — and you’ll need to pay taxes and fees on your award.
You may not have points or miles with the program you want to use to book your round-the-world ticket. But that’s OK, as you can transfer rewards from one or more of the major programs with transferable currencies to many of the programs. For example, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points and Marriott Bonvoy points to ANA Mileage Club.
I recommend spending weeks, if not months, traveling on a round-the-world ticket. But if you want to see what a round-the-world trip in seven days looks like, check out TPG’s newest video. Nicky Kelvin and Liam Spencer travel around the world in different directions on SkyTeam airlines, sharing the flight and aircraft details along the way.
