I love using Global Entry when returning to the U.S. after traveling abroad.
There’s usually no line for the Global Entry facial recognition stands. Then, assuming the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent doesn’t have any questions for me, they simply call my name and tell me I’m good to go. I didn’t even need to get my passport out when I used Global Entry in Los Angeles last Thursday.
The application fee for a five-year Global Entry membership is currently $100 and also provides TSA PreCheck access, but the fee will increase to $120 on Oct. 1. So, now is a good time to apply and still pay just a $100 application fee. However, if you have children you plan to enroll, you might benefit from waiting as kids will be free starting Oct. 1.
But, even if your credit card will cover the higher Global Entry fee, now is still a good time to apply if you don’t already have Global Entry or if you’re eligible to renew your Global Entry membership. After all, it can take a while to get a Global Entry interview — be sure to check out TPG’s tips on how to secure an appointment or do an interview upon arrival.
