You know how a lot of credit card welcome offers seem like they will save you tons of money on travel, but then come up short? Well, there is one offer in its final days that is just so chock-full of value that the bonus alone could save you money on flights for years.
Right now, you can earn up to 120,000 Rapid Rewards points when you open either of the Southwest Airlines business credit cards from Chase. Not only is that a massive number of points for this program, but it’s effectively enough to earn you the highly coveted Southwest Companion Pass!
The bonus is earned in tiers, and each card’s offer is a little different. Here’s how they work:
Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card: Earn 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, and an additional 60,000 points when you spend $15,000 in nine months.
Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card: Earn 80,000 points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, and an additional 40,000 points when you spend $15,000 in nine months.
You can get the Companion Pass by earning 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year, and the 120,000 points in this offer count toward that. Plus, holders of Southwest cobranded cards automatically get 10,000 points toward the Companion Pass each year. Add in the points you earn spending your way to that bonus, and you’re home free!
Keep in mind that you’d have to earn all of those points in the same calendar year to qualify for the pass, which could be tricky (but certainly still possible) given the timing and tiered structure of the offer. But if you’re able to earn it quickly, the Companion Pass is good for the remainder of the year in which you earn it plus the next full calendar year, so you could get a lot of mileage out of it.
And one of the things that makes Southwest’s Companion Pass so great is that you can use it with flights you’ve booked with points! Since you’ll have earned a lot of those in this process, you and your travel companion could reap megasavings on flights for a long time with this offer.
