How this welcome bonus can get you over $2,400 in travel
by Emily Thompson, Newsletter & Partnerships Editor
Some ultravaluable welcome bonuses are on cards that have hefty annual fees. But the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card has just a $95 annual fee, and its current welcome offer is a staggering 120,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $8,000 in the first three months from account opening.
You can redeem these points through Chase Travel℠ at a rate of 1.25 cents apiece, so you’ll get a minimum of $1,500 in travel with this bonus when you use it that way.
But thanks to Chase’s lineup of 14 hotel and airline transfer partners, TPG values Chase Ultimate Rewards points at a much higher 2.05 cents apiece (according to TPG’s August 2024 valuations).
For example, you could transfer your points to World of Hyatt and use them to stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai. This stay will cost between 25,000 and 35,000 Hyatt points per night, but cash rates are over $1,000 per night. Similarly, you could take a page out of TPG points and miles writer Katie Genter’s book and use your points to book a stay at the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa and get around the same value.
You can also use your points for budget redemptions to stretch them even further. I love to use mine for stays at Category 1 Hyatt Place hotels, which can cost as low as 3,500 points per night. Another great option is to transfer your points to Air Canada’s Aeroplan program and use them to book an economy flight to Hawaii for as low as 12,500 points.
Regardless of how you decide to use your points, the Ink Business Preferred’s current welcome offer of 120,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points is incredibly valuable — especially for a card with just a $95 annual fee.
