There are many myths about the best time to book a flight to save money on airfare. We don’t want to burst your bubble if you always book your flights on Tuesdays because you heard fares were cheaper, but it is, unfortunately, just a rumor.
That said, there are ideal windows when you should book your flight for cheaper fares. You’ll usually find the best prices one to two months in advance for domestic flights and three to five months in advance for international flights.
I use Google Flights to monitor prices and book when I see a reasonable fare. If the price goes down, most airlines allow you to rebook your flight at the lower price without a change fee.
And while there is no magical day when it is best to book your flight, flying on certain days of the week can save you money. If your schedule allows, booking a Sunday or midweek flight is cheaper than flying on a Friday or Saturday.
