Typically, you have to do some serious spending (or flying) to earn a Companion Pass. You’ll need to earn 135,000 qualifying points or complete 100 qualifying one-way flights within a calendar year.
The great news: The Southwest points you earn through spending on a cobranded Southwest credit card count toward your Companion Pass qualification — including the points you earn through a sign-up bonus.
Both cards are offering a bonus of up to 120,000 bonus points. The Premier Business is offering 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months from account opening and another 60,000 points after you spend $15,000 in the first nine months.
The Performance Business, meanwhile, is offering 80,000 points after you spend $5,000 in the first three months from account opening and 40,000 more points after you spend $15,000 in the first nine months.
Cobranded card holders also get a 10,000-point boost each year toward Companion Pass qualification, leaving you in need of just 5,000 points — which you’ll achieve by doing the spending to earn the bonus.
Just note that Companion Pass earning starts fresh each calendar year, so you’ll want to earn the entire bonus by Dec. 31 of this year in order to qualify for the Companion Pass with it.
